Comic: CactusGirl Has Had Quite Enough!

by Quercus

(In lieu of a written post today, I'll share another comic chronicling the journey of CactusGirl. One of these days I'll scan these in for better image clarity!)

  2. Thanks Kara & VR! :-)

Necessity is the mother of invention, right? We need more NPD/ACoN cartoons. ;-)

Just a reminder to anyone reading this - ALWAYS happy to share NPD/ACoN-themed artwork here on The ACoN Society! If you've got a creation, song, poem, article (definitely articles!), photo or video of a 3D art piece, let me know! Would love to have an "ACoN Art Gallery" section, but need more to showcase first! ;-)

  3. Great comics! I love how the parent cacti in the installment before this one get all smooth when the go to the therapist office (as well as the halos). A great representation of how N's can put on the "angelic" show for "important" people. I also think it is great symbolism of NM taking a bite out of CactusGirl and then becoming angry when CG grows defenses.

Oddly, this is similar to the project I'm working on. Mine's more of a "graphic novel" style comic, but they're all "funny books" as my father in law likes to call them. :D

I hope you're finding this type of creative exercise as therapeutic as I do!

    1. Hey AS!

Wow, seriously? You have actual talent in this department?! Heck, I'll post it here if you're up for it - it would be cool to see! Let me know!

Thanks for understanding all the metaphors! Yeah, it feels good to express this all - really healing! :-)

So cool that you're doing a graphic novel! I wish I had those skills! Really cool indeed!!! :-)

  4. Getting the message across visually sometimes gets past people's prickly defenses to really look at a situation. Love the cactus girl growing defenses and you are right the N parents do not like that.

  5. Thanks, Quercus! I certainly hope I can complete my Graphic novel idea! :D I only recently started drawing in any serious way, so this is an almost overwhelming task. However, the story that came to me just won't go away until it's told!

The thing I've learned about myself in my drawing classes is that it's not so much about talent, it's about learning basic skills to draw what you see and to plan a project. I've always loved to draw, but didn't think I had talent (thanks, NP's!). However, I have gotten some good responses to my initial art work that made me re-think that "truth". Planning is key for me and my style, so I'm currently in the script-writing phase of the project, but in the script is the description of the images in my brain, so I don't forget important symbols, etc (hopefully).

I don't know if you or other ACON's find this to be true, but I have all these ideas and projects, but I never seem to complete them. I'm determined to complete this one, though.

Keep it up, your work is very interesting and expressive. Oh, also, I love that the dialog is done in images, too. I almost didn't notice that, lol!
